KINGSTON UNIVERSITY,

FINE ART & FINE ART AND ART HISTORY

COLLECTIVE EXHIBITION

PUBLIC EXHIBIT

An Exhibition of publications by the Level 5 and 6 students of the BA Fine Art and BA Fine Art and Art History courses at KSA. This is the 5th year that students from Fine Art have responded to the open brief of Publication as Exhibition. The publication both digitally and physically has continued to be an essential, creative, conceptual, alternate space for artists to explore and disseminate their practice and ideas.

The online show will be accompanied by a physical exhibition at the Stanley Picker Gallery 14th - 17th December 2022.

The Folium Award

Folium Publishers award a student prize every year, the chance for them to work with Folium and realise their publication into an edition.

2021/2 winner was Kelly Sleep's  publication 'Body Mechanics'.

"Body Mechanics’ is a publication that translates Kelly Sleep’s uncanny and humorous kinetic sculptures into printed matter. Sleep’s sculptures are realised through the hacking of electronics and explore notions of anthropomorphism, body mechanics and human behaviour. The artist selects commonplace objects and materials from the everyday which through their design have a likeness to the human form. Mattresses inflate and deflate to replicate the motion of nodding in and out of sleep, pumps and pipes substitute for the respiratory system, and hot water bottles mimic bladders. These subtle motions invite the viewer to consider the complex systems within their own body".

This publication is part of the Folium Book Award which is run in conjunction with Kingston University and Stanley Picker Trust.

The book launch is on Thursday 15/12/22 at Biblioteka in Peckham 6-9pm.The Address is: Unit 6 Bellenden Road Business Park, London SE15 4RF
